Why did you choose to be a PM for your program?

After reaping the immense benefits to my personal and professional growth under the leadership of staff leaders, the former PMs, and Orpheo Speer, I knew I needed to seize the chance to contribute to FYSOP’s programming as a PM. This position empowers me to guide FYSOP’s mission through offering my experience, skills, and expertise, which all aid in connecting with community partners, designing aspects of FYSOP’s agenda, and ultimately inspiring the next generation of service leaders. I cannot wait to bounce off wisdom, ideas, and stories with the FYSOPers this year!

What is something about your program you are looking forward to?

As a FYSOP alumnus and former staff leader, I can confidently say that FYSOP truly changes a student’s experience at BU through fostering key relationships, introducing many out-of-state or international students to a novel environment, and immersing students in BU’s culture. I am most looking forward to being a part of this process of integrating students into our BU community while celebrating what makes our cohorts unique and special. I witnessed how FYSOP shaped me into the service-oriented student I am today, and now I have the opportunity to witness this positive change in others!

Why do you think people should get involved with the CSC?

The Community Service Center is the perfect place for those interested in not only serving their communities but also going beyond what we typically envision as service. At the CSC, our team instills the values of active citizenship, citizen diplomacy, and service with a sense of purpose. The latter involves serving with intention through community assessment and taking the time to understand communities as we serve people who differ in their backgrounds, traditions, and lifestyles.
