We’re looking forward to FYSOP 2025. Registration for FYSOP will go live May 1.
Overview: FYSOP aims to inspire students to become active citizens of their community. Through an initial day of service in August followed by several opportunities throughout the fall semester in a cohort of other first-year students, participants will build community by engaging in service, education, and reflection, and fun. Participants will start their time at BU with a greater understanding of Boston, a better sense of self, and a stronger sense of community. By providing opportunities for students to grow with the support of mentors, participants will learning essential skills to help them successfully navigate their transition into college and build support systems for both themselves and their community.
Program Objectives:
- Forge friendships with fellow participants through thoughtful and engaging conversations.
- Understand the concept of intersectionality and how it plays a role in our community, either in the Greater Boston area or at BU.
- Feel empowered and willing to generate positive change within their community.
- Encourage students to be intentional with the language used to discuss their experiences with service, community partners, and various social justice topics.
- Become active citizens in the world by addressing community needs in a socially responsible way.
Dates:
This year, FYSOP will take place, Thursday August 28 followed by several opportunities throughout the fall semester to engage in a cohort based community based learning service. Up to 500 new first-year and transfer undergraduate students enrolled at Boston University for the Fall 2025 semester are welcome to participate. We recommend that students participating in FYSOP register for Orientation with the “Service Track” for August 2025.
Cost:
FYSOP registration is now included in the Orientation Fee and is no longer a potential barrier for folks.
