Ice-making equipment, the ice floor, dasher boards, and glass at Walter Brown Arena were replaced with a modern, energy efficient system. Arena dehumidification, improved ventilation, and new lighting systems significantly improved the energy efficiency of the arena.

Sustainability

The Walter Brown Arena project includes many Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) including high-efficiency lighting, energy efficient compressors, variable frequency drives, demand control ventilation, and gas desiccant dehumidification. These conservation measures are estimated to reduce annual electricity use by 1.6 million kilowatt hours(kWh), save $221,000 per year (at $0.138 per kWh), and qualify for up to $199,000 of NSTAR incentive rebates.
