Warren Towers Renovation Construction Update – 11/21/2025

General Project Information

  • Weekday shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1st shift), 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (2nd shift), and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (3rd shift). Weekend shifts operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.

Saturday (1st Shift)

No work planned for Sunday

Exterior Work – Tower A

4th Floor Podium Roofs

  • Low roofs will be used as laydown areas for tools, supplies, and materials.
  • Crews will remove unnecessary tools, supplies, and equipment from the lower roofs via crane in preparation for winter.

East & West Facades

  • Masons will continue with exterior brick veneer restoration, selective demolition, and installation of restoration anchors, air- and water-resistive barriers, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Front Façade and Commonwealth Ave.

  • Masons will continue exterior restoration work and selective demolition.
  • Crews will continue steel stud framing of window openings and exterior walls.

Rear Façade and Back Alley

  • Masons will continue exterior restoration, selective demolition, and installation of anchors, barriers, and flashing systems.

Upper Roof

  • Work continues on the construction of the new mechanical penthouse.
  • Iron workers continue assembling steel beams and grating at the rooftop mechanical platform and roof screen supports.

West Podium Terrace

  • Crews will continue working on the parapet walls.
  • Installation of the new roofing system will continue.

Multipurpose Room Roof

  • Crews will continue constructing the new boiler room.
  • Installation of the new roofing system will continue.

Cummington Mall
(In and around the fenced area)

  • Daily deliveries of tools, supplies, and materials will be received at the construction loading docks.
  • The two-car personnel and materials hoist will remain in operation (with safety checks performed each morning at 6:00 a.m.).

Cummington Mall West

  • Daily deliveries and dumpster loading will continue.
  • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Hinsdale Mall

  • A crane will be in place on Saturday (1st shift) to hoist materials from the lower roofs.

  • The Warren Towers parking garage (Lot K) entrances, exits, and bike storage room will always remain open.
  • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will be on-site to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

    Interior Work – Tower A

      • Demolition is ongoing, with debris loaded into hampers, transported, and emptied into dumpsters at the construction loading dock.
      • Survey crews will continue layout and benchmarking.
      • Steel stud framing and window installation will continue.
      • Plaster patching at columns and beams continues.
      • Modernization of the Tower A elevators by Otis Elevator Company continues
      • Installation of structural steel clips, plates, kickers, and beam penetrations is ongoing.
      • Sprinkler, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and sheet metal ductwork installation will continue.

        • Pressure testing of mechanical systems will continue.
        • Fireproofing, spray foam, and firestopping will continue.
        • Third-party inspectors remain onsite weekly for quality control and assurance.

      Parking Garage

      • Electricians will continue running wiring and conduits on all levels.
      • Plumbers will continue installing new water and drain lines on all levels.
      • Concrete and steel structural repair work will continue.
      • Sprinkler installation will continue across all levels.
      • Masons will continue installing block walls in the new mechanical and electric rooms.
      Concrete slab repair work continues.
      • Please watch for adjusted parking patterns, cones, and observe signage.

        Crews will be working 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts

        No work is planned on Thursday 11/27 (Thanksgiving)

        Exterior Work – Tower A

        • Low roofs will continue to serve as laydown areas.

        • Crews will continue work on the low roofs east and west of Tower A.
        • Masonry restoration and installation of façade components will continue.
        • Installation of new windows and metal panels will continue.
        Installation of metal window trim panels.

        Front Façade and Commonwealth Ave.

        • Masons will continue restoration and selective demolition.
        • Crews will continue steel stud framing of window openings and exterior walls.

        Rear Façade and Back Alley

        • Masons will continue exterior restoration and selective demolition.

        • Work on the new mechanical penthouse will continue.
        • Iron workers will continue assembling steel beams and grating at the rooftop mechanical platform.

        • Crews will continue constructing the new boiler room.
        • Prefabricated mechanical equipment will be loaded into the west boiler room during the 2nd shift.
        • Temporary lighting will be used for 2nd shift and will turn off at 11:00 p.m.
        • Installation of the new roofing system will continue.

        Cummington Mall
        (In and around the fenced area)

        • Daily deliveries of tools and materials will continue.
        • The two-car hoist will remain in operation with daily safety checks. (The elevator operators begin their safety checks/preventative maintenance on the hoist way daily at 6:00 AM).

        Cummington Mall West

        • Daily deliveries and debris removal will continue.
        • BUPD officers and construction staff will assist with traffic.

        Hinsdale Mall

        • The loading dock will be open for normal operations.
        • The Warren Towers Parking Garage (Lot K) entrances, exits, and Bike Storage Room will always remain open.
        • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will be on-site to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

        • Crews will address water intrusion and above-ceiling work during 3rd shift hours.

        Tower A

        • Adjustment of the fence line on Cummington Mall during winter intersession.
        • Crane operations for installation of mechanical platform roof steel.
        • Delivery and installation of main electric room switchgear on 11/29.
        • Delivery and installation of 480V substation and paralleling gear on 12/5–12/6.
        • Delivery and installation of windows on levels 5 and 6.
        • Completion of 3rd section window leak testing.
        • FM Global roof uplift testing to begin in December.
        • Assembly of Tower B hoist way in December.
        • Installation of rooftop HVAC equipment and emergency generator on Tower A.
