Kilachand Hall Phase 2 – Construction Update – 05/26/23
General Project Information
- Daily Work Hours from 7 am – 3 pm.
- The Traffic Management Plan for the project has been approved by the Boston Transportation Department and is in place.
- Relocated accessible parking spaces posted for use on 6/29 (in front of 81 and 83 Bay State Road).
- Jersey barrier site containment in place, pedestrian walkway also in place and operational. The city sidewalk in front of Kilachand Hall is permitted to be used as part of the construction site limits.
- A Boston police detail is on site daily assisting with traffic control and safety.
- Bike lane is fully functional in front of Kilachand Hall.
- BU parking spots directly behind Kilachand Hall on Back Street remain a “no parking zone”. This will continue for the project duration to maintain an adequate drive lane for local traffic on Back Street and allow the construction team to safely contain a work area north of the dormitory.

During the Weekend of May 27th
- Consigli: Two workers on site for supervision.
- Safway: Removal of scaffolding on the east side of the south face, or west side of the northeast wing.
- Riggs: Four workers on site for housekeeping and removal of the temporary ramp on level 9.
- Mass Acoustics: Eight carpenters sheet rocking and taping on levels 1 and 9. Specifically, the soffits and ceilings on level 9, column wraps on level 9, and taping level 8.
- Egan: Two painters working on levels 8 and 9.
- Murphy: Ten workers focusing on fire alarm work, ceiling rough on level 9, and generator build out.
- JC Floors: Two workers installing tile in the 9th-floor bathrooms.
- Titan Roof: Tying in the skylight rubber, and installing the metal panel on the southwest roof, if weather permits.
During the Week of May 29th
- There will be no work on Monday, 5/29 in observance of Memorial Day
- Royal Steam HVAC building out the level 9 mechanical room, variable refrigerant flow system piping, ductwork on level 9, and piping to the energy recovery unit.
- Murphy Electric will continue with rough work on levels 8 and 9, and overhead rough on level 9. This work includes the build out of the electrical panels in the level 9 mechanical room, build out of the new emergency generator and fire alarm wiring, device installation, and the start of programming.
- Mass Acoustics to continue with soffit and ceiling framing, as well as sheetrock on level 9. The level 1 stair core shaft wall installation will also get underway, as well as cleanup work on level 8, mainly sheetrock and taping.
- Cheviot Ceilings to continue work on the various ceiling types on level 9.
- Titan continues with roof installation and miscellaneous detailing and tie-ins, as well as the installation of the metal panels at the center roof face.
- ThyssenKrupp Elevator will have one operator on site for temporary use of the new elevators.
- JC Floor and Tile will be finishing up added tile scope in the renovation suite bathrooms and continuing with the level 9 tile installation.
- Riggs masonry continues with stairwell parging.
- Egan Painters are continuing work with concrete blocks and railings in the stairwell, as well as paint on levels 8 and 9. They will also be patching dorm room floors, working from level 7 down.
- SOS demo to continue removing the temporary construction barriers on levels 1 through 7 as well as carpet removal in the dormitory rooms starting on level 7.
- Dow site contractors to start on site with preparation and excavation for stormwater recharge system.
- Consigli/Riggs team on site for cleaning, site support, and supervision.
