CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 1/10/20

During January 10th – January 17th:

(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, January 11th and Sunday, January 12th)

General:

Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the concert hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.

Exterior:

There is work scheduled for this Saturday, January 11th and Sunday, January 12th. This work will consist of the removal of staging along the east façade of the building, washing of the southeast elevation and the installation of limestone on level 5 on the southwest and west elevations. There will also be ongoing welding of the window archways along the west and south facades.

For the remainder of the week, the exterior work will consist of:

East Façade

  • The removal of the staging will continue and should be completed by the beginning of next week.
  • Work will begin on the new ramp along the east façade.

South Façade

  • The setting of capstone will begin along the southeast facade (from the center entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge). This will be followed by window cleaning, with the removal of staging to begin in another week or so.
  • The parapet limestone will continue to be installed on the southwest façade throughout the week (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).

West Façade

  • With the completion of the installation of the parapet staples and flashing, steel plating will be installed followed by limestone along the parapet.

North Façade

  • The removal and installation of new steel relieving angles is ongoing for the next few weeks.
  • The repointing of bricks is also ongoing and should be completed when the Spring semester begins.

Interior:

There is work scheduled for this Saturday, January 11th and Sunday, January 12th. This work will consist of framing and hanging sheetrock in the movement studio as well as in classrooms and common areas around the first floor. There will be the installation of ductwork in the movement studio as well as work on the new air-handling unit in the mezzanine.

For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:

On the Ground Level

  • The welding and installation of piping in the mechanical rooms will continue.

On the 1st Level

  • The installation of tile and plaster on the art gallery ramp and stairs has begun and will continue into next week.
  • The installation of the air handling unit at the mezzanine level will be ongoing over the next few weeks.
  • The mechanical mezzanine will see the installation of fixtures followed by painting.
  • Plastering of the walls in the movement studio will begin followed by painting.
  • The installation of the sprung floor will begin in the student lounge as well as the taping and plastering of the walls. This will continue through the middle of the month.

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
