CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 12/13/19

During December 13th – December 20th:

(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, December 14th and Sunday, December 15th)

General:

On Monday, December 16th the lower parking lot (Lot D) at 25 Buick St. will be closed as a crane will be utilizing the lot to bring materials onto the lower roof of 855 Comm Ave.

Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.

Exterior:

There is work scheduled for this Saturday, December 14th and Sunday, December 15th. This work will consist of the installation and welding of the window archways along the west and south facades.

For the remainder of the week, the exterior work will consist of:

East Façade

  • Window washing operations will begin.

South Façade

  • The installation of the parapet limestone will begin on the southeast facade (from the center entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
  • Parapet repair, flashing, and stone reinstallation will continue on level 5 on the southwest facade (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).
  • Installation of steel window arches is ongoing.

West Façade

  • The removal of the level 5 window headers continues.
  • Installation of steel window arches is ongoing.

North Façade

  • The removal and installation of new steel relieving angles is ongoing.

Interior:

There is work scheduled for this Saturday, December 14th and Sunday, December 15th. This work will consist of plastering the ceilings in the student lounge and movement studio, installing ceiling tiles in classrooms 154 and 156, and the welding and installation of piping in the basement mechanical rooms.

For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:

On the Ground Level

  • The welding and installation of piping in the mechanical rooms continues.

On the 1st Level

  • Decorative painting and installation of light fixtures will begin in the art gallery.
  • The installation of the air handling unit at the mezzanine level will be ongoing over the next few weeks.
  • The assembly of the sprung floor will begin in the movement studio after the new concrete ramp is poured in the beginning of the week.
  • The painting of the ceiling in the student lounge will begin later in the week along with the framing of the wall separating the movement and theater studios.
  • Installation of controls for the air handling unit at the mezzanine level are ongoing.

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
