CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 11/29/19
During November 29th – December 6th:
(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, November 30th and Sunday, December 1st)
General:
Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.
Exterior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, November 30th. This work will consist of the setting of limestone lintels on level 5 of the south elevation and the installation of steel arches on the west elevation alley.
East Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will be completed on level 5.
- The staging removal operation will begin and will be on going for the next few weeks.
West Façade
- Installation of the steel relieving angles and bent steel will begin on level 5.
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will begin on level 5 towards the end of the week.
South Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will continue on level 5 at the eastern half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will begin on level 5 at the western half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).
North Façade
- Brick joint cutting and repointing operations will continue through mid-December.
Interior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, November 30th and Sunday, December 1st. This work will consist of the patching and plastering of ceilings in the movement and theater studios as well as the art gallery and the installation of ductwork in room 109.
For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:
On the Ground Level
- Work to insulate new ductwork will continue in the mechanical areas along the southeastern corner behind the ethnomusicology classroom and instrument storage.
On the 1st Level
- The installation of sprinklers will begin followed by above ceiling inspections in rooms 154 and 156.
- The installation of the air handling unit at the mezzanine level will continue.
- The repair of the plaster ceilings has started in the movement and theater studios and will continue over the next week.
- The installation of light fixtures in the elevator lobby will continue.
- The repair of the plaster ceiling in the art gallery will continue over the next 2 weeks followed by painting of the ceiling.
- Framing of the art gallery office will continue.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
