CFA Facade, Envelope, and Accessibility Renovations – Construction Update – 10/4/19

During October 4th – October 11th:

(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, October 5th)

General:

Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.

Exterior:

There is work scheduled on the east, west, south, and north facades of the building for this Saturday, October 5th. This work will consist of crack repair, stone patching, and window caulking on the east elevation and repointing on the north, south and west elevations.

For the remainder of the week, the exterior work will consist of:

East Façade

  • Steel lintel repair, stone repointing, and stone installation on levels 4 & 5.

West Façade

  • Steel lintel repair, stone repointing, and stone installation on level 4.

South Façade

  • Work will continue with the installation of relieving angles at the eastern half of the building (from the main entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge) and will commence on the western half of the building (from the main entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena) as well.

North Façade

  • Brick cutting operations will continue for the next two weeks or so. Masonry demolition will commence later in the week and will continue through the remainder of the month.

Interior:

There is work scheduled in and around the 4th floor restrooms for this Saturday, October 5th. This work will consist of exhaust duct installation and possibly electrical and plumbing work if needed.

For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:

On the Ground Level

  • Exploratory work continues along the exterior side (south) of the ethnomusicology instrument storage area heading east behind the open labs.

On the 1st Level 

  • The demolition of the window openings along the southwest side of the building is ongoing.
  • The installation of HVAC piping and ductwork will happen inside room 109 during non-classroom hours.
  • The Commonwealth Gallery continues to have HVAC equipment, sprinkler work, and ceiling grid installed.
  • HVAC equipment, lighting and ceiling work in the elevator lobby continues.
  • Handrails  installation for the Concert Hall ramp and steps is progressing. The metals rails have been completed with wood handrails to follow.

On the 4th Level

  • Rough plumbing and electrical inspections have been scheduled. Once the inspections have been completed the installation of wallboard will commence.

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
