Warren Towers Renovation Construction Update – 5/30/2025
General Project Information
- The first weekday work shift will begin at 7:00 am and end at approximately 3:30 pm, with the second shift beginning at 3:00 pm and ending at 11 pm. Weekend shifts will start at 7:00 am and end at 4:00 pm.
- The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.

Exterior Work
Rear Facade
- Crews will continue abatement demolition in the South Wall Quad rooms and in Tower A hoist way bridge access openings.
Cummington Mall
- Crews will begin removing trees on Cummington Mall.
Hinsdale Mall
- Crews have begun phase 1 of the new grease trap and storm water retention system evacuation. Crews will continue installing recharge wells. A portion of Hinsdale Mall is now closed, including the loading dock and east exit of the parking garage.

Interior Work
Tower A
- Crews will continue their make safe electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work on all floors.
- Crews will continue installing temporary lighting, power, and fire alarms (heat detectors).
During the Week of 6/2
Exterior Work- Tower A
4th-Floor Podium Roofs
(East and West Facades)
- Crews will remove stone ballasts from the roof level, using a vacuum truck. This truck will be set up in multiple locations. This will produce intermittent noise.

East and West Façades
- Crews will work on the low roofs, east and west of Tower A.
- Crews will continue installing temporary lighting on the exterior staging levels.
- Crews will begin abatement demolition, starting in a top-down sequence.
- Masons will begin brick veneer restoration work, washdown, selective demolition, and working on restoration anchors.
Front Façade and on Commonwealth Avenue
- Crews will begin abatement demolition, starting in a top-down sequence.
- Masons will begin brick veneer restoration work, washdown, selective demolition, and working on restoration anchors.
- Crews will be installing a roof membrane on the overhead platform to minimize dripping.
Rear Façade and Back Alley
- Crews will continue installing overhead protection, staging, shoring, and stair components in the South Alley.
- Crews will install access bridges in the south wall as the windows are removed, and openings are left behind.

- Crews will begin abatement demolition, starting in a top-down sequence.
- Masons will begin brick veneer restoration work, washdown, selective demolition, and working on restoration anchors.
- Plumbers will continue installing temporary risers for roof drainage and the portable toilet vacuum waste line in the south staging.
Upper Roof
- Crews will continue the abatement and demolition of the parapets and mechanical penthouse.

Exterior Work- Tower B
4th-Floor Podium Roofs
(East and West Facade)
- Crews will begin installing the staging support steel east and west of Tower B.
Upper Roof
- Crews will begin setting up swing staging on the South elevation, in order for crews to install the necessary bridge tiebacks.
West Podium and Terrace Roofs
- Crews will begin abatement demolition on the west terrace. Crews will utilize a crane to hoist demolition debris down to dumpsters, which will be located on the west side of Cummington Mall.

Cummington Mall
(In and around the fenced area)
- There will be daily deliveries of tools, supplies, and materials to be received at the construction loading dock.
- The team will participate in daily contractor meetings to review site safety, logistics, and the code of conduct.
- A crane will be set up on Cummington Mall west on Monday, June 2, 2025. Crews will lift demolition debris from the west terrace roof down into the dumpster at street level.
- Crews will begin the excavation at the Tower B hoist way, removing underground storage tanks.
- A portion of Cummington Mall is now closed. Please observe site signage and BUPD detail instructions.
Hinsdale Mall
- Crews will begin Phase 1 of the new grease trap and storm water retention system excavation. This will close a portion of Hinsdale Mall and the east exit of the parking garage and the loading dock; however, the west exit will remain open.
Interior Work
Tower A
- Crews will begin make safe electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
- Crews will continue installing temporary lighting, power, and fire alarm (heat detectors).
- Crews will continue abatement demolition on all floors.
Towers B
- Crews will access the building with swing staging components up to the roof level.
- Crews will begin the selective demolition at staging tie backs in student rooms.
Dining Hall
- Crews will install temporary protection in preparation for ceiling removal.
- Crews will remove ceilings from selected areas, in order to gain access for structural steel work.
- Crews will conduct enabling work at the skylight in preparation for its removal and replacement.
Parking Garage
- Electricians will be running temporary power wiring and conduits throughout the parking garage.
- HVAC teams will begin working in and around the temporary electric room on the first floor.
- Crews have begun demolition on VAC piping and ductwork.
- Plumbers will install new water and drain lines in the basement level.
- Crews will begin demolition and excavation in the southeast basement level of the parking garage, in order to build a new fuel storage tank room.
- Crews will begin the demolition of the parking office on the first floor, in order to make room for the new bike storage area.
- The existing bike storage room will be closed, demolished, and converted into a new electrical switchgear room.
- Crews will conduct miscellaneous concrete structural repairs throughout all levels of the parking garage.

- Crews will begin first floor sprinkler work. Please watch for adjusted parking patterns, cones and observe site signage.
- Crews have begun work reinforcing structural steel work, and in the crews’ area shaking out and distributing their materials.

Future/Notable Tasks
- Crews will begin foundation work for Tower B hoist way.
- Third shift utility work will begin on Commonwealth Avenue.
- Crews will conduct reoccurring crane work on Cummington Mall west in the coming weeks.
