Warren Towers Renovation Construction Update – 5/9/2025

General Project Information

  • Starting Monday, May 12th, all work shifts on the exterior, adjacent to student rooms, on staging, podium roofs, street level work, inside the fenced construction area, and deliveries will begin at 7:00 am and end at approximately 5:00 pm.
  • Deliveries, work on the street level, and work inside the fenced construction area will begin at 7:00 am.
  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.

Saturday, 5/10

No work to take place on Sunday, 5/11

Front Façade and on Commonwealth Avenue

  • Crews will continue work at the Commonwealth Avenue overhead protection platform installing staging and Monarflex wrap. There will be intermittent drilling noise due to crews working on scaffolding connections to the build.

Cummington Mall West
(Parking Garage West Exit end of the building)

  • Crews will continue overhead protection and scaffolding assembly at the south end of the building. Please observe signage for sidewalk closures. 

Rear Façade and Back Alley

  • Crews will continue installing overhead protection, scaffolding, and Monarflex wrap at the rear alley behind the building.

4th-Floor Podium Roofs

  • Crews will continue assembling the staging upward, feeding materials from the laydown areas on the low roofs (east and west of Tower A) adjacent to student rooms. For privacy, please keep blinds, drapes, and window treatments closed.

During the Week of 5/12

Exterior Work

4th-Floor Podium Roofs
(East and West Facade) 

  • Crews will continue assembling the staging upward, feeding materials from the laydown areas on the low roofs (east and west of Tower A) adjacent to student rooms. For privacy, please keep blinds, drapes, and window treatments closed.

Front Façade and on Commonwealth Avenue

  • Work continues at the Commonwealth Avenue overhead protection platform installing staging components and Monarflex wrap.
  • Crews will be installing a roof membrane on the overhead platform to minimize dripping.
  • There will be intermittent drilling noise due to crews working on scaffolding connections to the build.

Rear Façade and Back Alley

  • Crews will continue installing overhead protection, staging components, and Monarflex wrap in the rear alley behind the building. There will be intermittent drilling noise due to crews working on scaffolding connections to the build. Welding will also take place during the daytime, so please close your windows when feasible.

  • The south alley will always remain open for pedestrian foot traffic. This provides access to 111 Cummington Mall and is a good alternative to avoid the congestion of the Cummington Mall construction zone.

    • There will be daily deliveries of scaffolding materials.
    • Crews will continue assembling the temporary construction loading dock.
    • The team will participate in daily contractor meetings to review site safety, logistics, and the code of conduct.
    • Crews will set up a crane in the fenced area on 5/14, to remove materials from podium roofs west of Tower A. A BUPD Detail will be onsite for assistance.

    Tower A 
    (On the roofing) 

    • Staging crews will continue capping the top of the staging with roofing for weather protection.
    • Crews will begin demolition of the parapet.

    Hinsdale Mall 

    • Crews will set up a crane in the fenced area on 5/14, to remove materials from podium roofs west of Tower A. This will shut down exit from the parking garage on Hinsdale Mall from 7 am to 11 am. The parking garage entrance and the exit on the west side, onto Cummington Mall West, will remain open all day. Signage will be posted and a BUPD detail will be on site to assist with pedestrian traffic.

          Interior Work

          Towers

          • Crews will access the rooftop of Tower A at the beginning of work shifts.

          Parking Garage

          • Electricians will be running temporary power wiring and conduits throughout the parking garage.
          • HVAC teams will begin working in and around the temporary electric room on the first floor.
          • Plumbers will install temporary water lines throughout the garage for construction usage. Please watch for adjusted parking patterns, cones and observe site signage.

          Future/Notable Tasks

          • Crews will begin conducting excavation work on Hinsdale Mall on 5/20/25.
          • A vacuum truck will be onsite in the coming weeks to remove materials from the podium roofs, pending coordination with neighboring buildings and notifications.
          • As work increases, a 2nd work shift of 3 pm- 11 pm will begin as soon as 5/20/25.
          • Crews will begin foundation work for Tower B hoist way.
          • Crews will begin preparation work on Tower B installing structural tiebacks in student rooms (south wall).
