Warren Towers Renovation – Construction Update – 1/17/2025

General Project Information

  • Work on the exterior, outside student rooms, will be performed from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
  • Work on the street level will be performed from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm.
  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.

During the weekend of 1/18

  • On Saturday, 1/18, crews will work within the fenced-in area on Cummington Mall to assemble the shoring tower and steel bridge components.

During the week of 1/20

  • On Monday, 1/20, no work activities will be conducted on site in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Exterior Work

4th-Floor Podium Roof 

  •  Crews will continue working on the staging support steel at the low roofs to the east an west of Tower A.

Front Façade (Commonwealth Avenue)

  • Crews will work on top of the overhead protection installing guardrails, staging, and shoring components.

Rear Façade (Rear Alley)

  • Crews will continue installing overhead protection, shoring towers, and scaffolding at the rear alley behind the building.
  • Crews will finish the selective demolition of the bridge connection openings and install bridge steel connections on the back side of Tower A.

Cummington Mall

  • Crews will continue building shoring supports for the steel bridge beams on the Tower A pad.

  • Crews will assemble steel beams in preparation for the weekend lift.

  • Friday afternoon, 1/24 – A large crane will be delivered and assembled. This will shut down Cummington Mall from Hinsdale Street to the west end of Cummington Mall until Sunday night.
    • The south sidewalk will remain open.
    • The north sidewalk will be closed to accommodate the crane’s footprint.
  • Saturday, 1/25, and Sunday, 1/26 – From 6 am until 6 pm large bridge beams will be lifted into place to create a bridge over Cummington Mall.
  • SAFETY NOTICE – 111 Cummington Mall, the south alley, and all swing radius need to be closed down during the entire duration of the assembly process. The construction team will be clearing all of these areas prior to overhead lifts. Please observe any and all signage and site guidance over the weekend.

Interior Work

    Towers 

    • There are no planned work activities on site on level 4 or in Towers A, B, or C.

    Parking Garage

    • Electrical work will continue in the temporary electric room on the 1st floor.
