Kilachand Hall Phase 2 – Construction Update – 6/16/23

General:

  • Daily Work Hours from 6 am-4 pm. (6 am for interior work per ISD permit)
    • The Traffic Management Plan for the project has been approved by the Boston Transportation Department and is in place.
    • Relocated accessible parking spaces posted for use on 6/29 (in front of 81 and 83 Bay State Road).
    • Jersey barrier site containment is in place, the pedestrian walkway is also in place and operational. The city sidewalk in front of Kilachand Hall is permitted to be used as part of the construction site limits.
    • Boston Police detail onsite daily to assist with traffic control and safety.
    • Bike lane is fully functional in front of Kilachand Hall.
  • BU parking spots directly behind Kilachand Hall on Back Street remain a “no parking zone”. This will continue for the duration of the project to maintain an adequate drive lane for local traffic on Back Street and allow for the construction team to safely contain a work area North of the dormitory.

Weekend Work: Saturday, June 17th: 7 am to 3pm

  • Consigli: 2 workers on site providing site supervision.
  • Mass Acoustics: 8 workers taping on level 9, installing music room floor, parapet blocking, sheetrock and tape in the basement and on level 1, and light gauge framing at new recycling areas on all floors.
  • SOS: 4 workers demoing wood floor as needed and cleaning up demo at recycling areas.
  • Cheviot Ceilings: 2 carpenters installing cut tiles throughout level 9.
  • Murphy Electric: 12 workers installing light fixtures and finish devices on level 9, rough in at recycling areas.
  • Royal Steam: 6 workers installing duct drops on level 9, installation of radiant heating units on 9, plumbing finishes and drain line in stairs.
  • Titan: 4 installers working on metal panels on the south side of level 9.
  • Safway: 12 workers, including one elevator operator. The remainder of the crew will be removing scaffold on the northwest side of the building.
  • Egan Painting: 2 painters continue with prep and painting on floors 2-9.
  • Riggs: 9 laborers and carpenters providing general cleanup on all floors, basement through 9, and installing screens, wood infills, and trim work.

Construction Activities Starting the Week of June 19th

  • BrandSafway to continue with scaffold removal on the north side of the building.
  • Royal Steam HVAC continuing with work in the level 9 mechanical room, VRF system piping connections, and installation of HVAC wall-mounted units.
  • Royal Steam plumbers installing bathroom fixtures on level 9.
  • Murphy Electric to continue with light fixture installation and completion of fire alarm work, rough in to continue in recycling alcoves.
  • Mass Acoustics to continue with partition and soffit framing tie-ins from new construction to existing on all dorm room floors. Fire pump room shaft wall construction and sheetrock at ceilings on level 9.  Taping and mud throughout all floors as part of the summer painting upgrades.
  • Cheviot Ceilings to continue to work on the various ceiling installations on level 9.
  • Titan continues with miscellaneous detailing and tie-ins, as well as installation of metal panels to completion at the southwest roof area.
  • JC Floors installing tile work on level 9 core locations.
  • ThyssenKrupp Elevator will have one operator on site for temporary use of new elevators.
  • Riggs masonry continues with the closure of structural steel beams at the new stairwell.
  • Egan Painting to continue patching, taping, and painting on all floors, 2 through 9.
  • LRS to continue with 2nd shift installation of new light fixtures throughout the building as part of BU’s energy-efficiency lighting upgrade.
  • Consigli/Riggs team on site cleaning, site support, and supervision.
Patch and paint of hallways and dorm rooms on all floors is under way – carpet replacement to follow
