Kilachand Hall Phase 2 – Construction Update – 8/5/22
General Project Information
Daily project work hours have been adjusted as of the week of 7/11:
Now 6 am-3:30 pm for interior work
Remains 7 am-3:30 pm for exterior work
The Traffic Management Plan for the project has been approved by the Boston Transportation Department. (Implementation of plan underway this week into next).
Relocated accessible parking spaces posted for use on 6/29 (in front of 81 and 83 Bay State Road).
Jersey barrier site containment in place, pedestrian walkway also in place and operational. City sidewalk in front of Kilachand Hall is now permitted to be used as part of the construction site limits.
Bike lane painting is completed and bike lane fully functional.
BU parking spots directly behind Kilachand Hall on Back Street remain ano-parking zone.This will continue for the duration of the project to maintain an adequate drive lane for local traffic on Back Street and allowing for the construction team to safely contain a work area north of the dormitory.
Kilachand Hall will be unoccupied until August 19th, 2022 while construction gets under way. There will be no access to anyone other than the project team and BU trade shops. August 19this the start of RA move-ins for the fall semester, August 29this the campus wide move-in date.

Saturday, August 6th (7 am – 3:30 pm)
Work hours for interior work will change to a 6 am-3:30 pm shift. All exterior work remains a 7 am start time.
Mass Acoustics tapers on site cleaning up patches and sanding.
Murphy Electric working on miscellaneous worklist close-out items, including light fixtures and heat detectors throughout dorm room vestibules.
JC Floors on site working on tiling of shower floors and carpet patching in closets.
Riggs carpenters on site installing solid surface shower walls and closet shelving.
Riggs laborers to continue interior clean-up.
Safway completing north elevation scaffold for turnover.
Egan is painting the construction barrier walls and other punch list touch-ups throughout.
Costello dismantling on site continuing with abatement at window lintels to help accelerate masonry demo.
Consigli Construction will have staff on site for job site supervision.
Restoration of new brick headers ongoing
During the week of August 8th
BrandSafway to continue with overhead staging on Back Street.
Riggs masonry will continue with the demolition of window headers and building corners at the north elevation.
Riggs masonry to continue with new lintel installation and waterproofing details at window headers throughout the west and east elevations.
Badd Brothers steel erectors to start on structural steel for elevator and stairwell construction.
SOS Corp (demo) will start on slab demolition for the new elevator hoistway and stairwell as well as demolition of the 9th floor.
Costello dismantling to continue with abatement of exterior window lintels at the north elevation.
Royal Steam (plumbers) to start working on plumbing finishes in B and C stack bathrooms following the installation of solid surface finish wall material.
Royal Steam (mechanical) to start on ceiling finishes in B and C stack bathrooms.
Mass Acoustics to continue working on miscellaneous patching throughout. Construction of temporary construction barrier on the 1st floor.
Egan Paint painting temporary construction barriers on all floors and touch-ups throughout where needed. They will also be painting in B and C stack bathrooms.
JC Floors will work to complete shower floor tile installation throughout the B and C stacks, as well as miscellaneous closet patching.
Riggs carpenters to install solid surface shower wall finishes throughout B and C stack bathrooms.
Murphy Electric continues with fire alarm preparation and testing of temporary devices used for construction. Installation of lighting and other finishes in B and C stack bathrooms.
BU Facilities Management & Operations and Housing are continuing their dormitory refresh and cleaning process, and will also be resetting furniture in rooms as we get ready for the fall semester.
