Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 8/5/22
During the weekend of August 6th
On Saturday, crews will be working on the exterior of the building from the elevated platforms to continue installing panels at the 5th and 17th-floor soffits. The site contractor and landscaper will continue the installation of the retaining wall, ramp, and planting beds between the building and the Bay State brownstones.
Also on Saturday, installation of the atrium’s monumental stair and tower’s communicating stair will continue on the interior of the building. Removal of the scaffolding above the sit-step will continue. Framing, hanging, and finishing drywall will continue in the tower. Crews from the mechanical and electrical subcontractors will be on site continuing the connections and startup of their respective systems.
A second shift, from 3 pm to 11 pm with be utilized on Saturday to continue installation of stair D in the atrium.
Deliveries for miscellaneous materials will also occur throughout the day.

During the week of August 8th
At the atrium, crews continue to install the guardrails for the monumental stair. Framing for the finish wall paneling will continue. Installation of stone treads and risers will begin.
On the ground floor, installation of stone flooring will continue from the podium into the atrium and the tower.
Installation of finishes will continue throughout. On the tower’s lower floors and in the podium, installation of whiteboards, cabinetry, wood and acoustical ceilings, interior glass, and doors continue.
The elevator subcontractor will continue the installation of elevators 1, 2, and 3 including construction of the cabs and installation of flooring on the north side of the core. Car 4 was inspected by state officials and will be operational for use transporting materials and workers beginning Monday, August 8th.
Installation of metal panels will be completed at the soffit on the underside of the 17th floor. Following completion of that work, work will begin on the soffit on the underside of the 7th floor.
Installation of the green roofing system continues on the 5th and 6th floors.
Installation of the structural components of stair F, the communicating stair, have been completed. The focus will now shift to the treads, risers, and guardrails.
Exterior site work continues on all sides of the building, preparation for new sidewalks continues along Commonwealth Avenue, and retaining wall, ramp, stair, and planter installation continue at the rear of the Bay State Road brownstones.
Crews will continue working on the east side of Granby Street. The fence line has moved west to allow for this site work activity. This includes installation of streetlight pole bases, landscape planter concrete work ahead of curb resetting, and bike lane/sidewalk layout. Parking along the west side of Granby Street has been removed to allow two lanes of vehicular access during this site work. The pedestrian sidewalk on the west side of Granby Street remains open and accessible.
The project will continue utilizing a second shift, from 3 pm to 11 pm, Monday through Friday to advance interior work, accommodate off-hour deliveries and material loading, and trash removal.
Please be aware in addition to daily deliveries, trucks with large trailers will be staged adjacent to and moving around the site and pedestrians should be aware of all safety and directional signage in the areas as pedestrian and vehicle travel paths may be altered.
Installation of rebar, formwork, and eventually concrete for the retaining walls and planters.
Granby Street Closed August 20th – 21st
During the weekend of August 20th and 21st, a large mobile crane will be set up on Granby Street to hoist roofing material to the tower’s upper levels. Additional information regarding the logistics of this activity and the traffic impacts on Granby Street and Bay State Road can be foundhere.
