Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 07/08/22

During the weekend of July 9th

  • On Saturday, crews will continue working from the elevated platforms finishing the 15th and continuing with 17th-floor soffits. Installation of the formwork for the retaining wall at the rear of the Bay State Road brownstones will also continue.
  • Also on Saturday, installation of the atrium’s monumental stair and tower’s communicating stair will continue. Framing, hanging, and finishing drywall will continue in the tower. Crews from the mechanical and electrical subcontractors will be on site continuing the installation of their respective systems.
  • Deliveries for miscellaneous materials will also occur throughout the day.

During the week of July 11th

  • At the atrium, crews continue to install the guardrails for the monumental stair. Working from a suspended platform, installation of the atrium’s ceiling and mechanical systems will continue. Crews will continue the installation of interior glass around the atrium at the lower level.
  • On the ground floor, wall framing and installing drywall will continue. Installation of finishes will continue on floors 2 through 6. Installation of the whiteboards in the classrooms continues. Installation of lockers will continue on the lower level. Millwork cabinetry and finish wall paneling installation will continue. Painting, ceiling panel installation, and polishing of the concrete floors will continue. Interior glass partitions will be installed at offices.
  • Installation of the wood panel ceiling system will continue on the second floor above sit step.
  • Framing ceilings in the corridors of the tower is ongoing on the 6th and 7th floors and installation of drywall on the ceiling and walls continues on floors 15 – 17.
  • The elevator subcontractor will continue installing elevators 1, 2, and 3, including the construction of the cabs on the north side of the core. Final details for elevator cars 7 and 8 in the podium will be put in.
  • Installation of the roofing system at the terraces will continue with the installation of the parapet metal coping. Installation of green roofing preparation continues on the 7th level terrace. Roofing installation continues at the 12th and 15th-floor terraces. Installation of the metal roofing system on the 20th floor continues.
  • Framing and metal panel installation continues at the soffit on the underside of the 15th and 17th floors.
  • Installation continues with the structural components of Stair F, the communicating stair connecting the tower’s 5th through 17th floors. This will be followed by the installation of railings.
  • Preparations for the placement of concrete light pole bases and planters along Commonwealth Avenue will continue in preparation for the new sidewalk.
  • In the alley between the building and the Bay State Road brownstones, work will continue on the retaining wall’s concrete placement.
  • Crews will continue working on the east side of Granby Street. The site fence has been moved west to allow for the installation of light pole bases, and landscape preparations ahead of resetting the curb and sidewalk placement. Parking along the west side of Granby Street has been removed to allow vehicular access during this roadway work. The pedestrian sidewalk on the west side of Granby Street remains open and accessible.
  • Throughout the week, work crews will be installing the fiber optic backbone for the project. This work involves accessing the below-grade existing telecom structures within the CAS parking lot (Lot J), the intersection at Granby Street and Bay State Road, the intersection of Granby Street and the alleyway, within the alleyway, and at the intersection of Silber Way and the alleyway. From Monday, 7/11, through Wednesday, 7/13, crews will be occupying parking spots located in Lot J and working in Bay State Road and Granby Street structures. from Wednesday, 7/13, through Friday, 7/15, crews will be working in the alleyway behind Sargent College and Silber Way.
  • The project will continue utilizing a second shift, from 3 pm to 11 pm, Monday through Friday to continue interior work, take deliveries, and remove trash.
  • Please be aware in addition to daily deliveries, trucks with large trailers will be staged adjacent to and moving around the site, and pedestrians should be aware of all safety and directional signage in the areas as pedestrian and vehicle travel paths may be altered.
