Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 05/20/22

During the weekend of May 21st

  • On Saturday, installation of the atrium monumental stair will continue. Framing, hanging, and finishing drywall will continue in the tower. Crews will also be on site assembling and installing curtain wall panels. Workers will continue applying fireproofing materials to the buildings steel beams and columns. Crews from the mechanical and electrical subcontractors will be on site continuing the install of their respective systems.
  • On Sunday, the project will begin utilizing a third shift from 11pm to 7am for demolition activity within the tower’s core.

During the week of May 23rd

  • Installation of curtain wall panels at the various leave-out locations throughout the tower will continue.
  • At the atrium, crews continue to install the monumental stair focusing on infilling the landings, installing handrails, and installing treads and risers that were left out for rigging and attaching to the structure.
  • In the lower half of the building, installation of finishes will continue on floors 2 through 5. Installation of the whiteboards in the classrooms continues. Installation lockers will begin on the lower-level, millwork install will continue throughout. Painting and ceiling install will continue on floors 4 and 5. Polishing of the concrete floors continues. Interior glass partitions will be installed at office fronts.
  • Wall framing continues on the 15th through 17th floors, hanging drywall continues on floors 12 and 13.
  • The elevator subcontractor will continue the installation of elevators 1, 2, and 3 on the north side of the tower’s core involving raceways and elevator rail components. Installation of elevator cabs continues at cars 7 and 8.
  • Installation of the roofing system at the terraces will continue with soil being placed for the green roof on the 5th floor. Following the removal of the tower crane connection, roofing install will resume at the 12th floor terrace.
  • At the soffits on the underside of the 12th and 15th floors, installation of waterproofing, framing components, and metal panels continue.
  • At the corner of Bay State Road and Granby Street, crews will continue installing foundations for landscape features, and will backfill the area.
  • On Monday, removal of the overhead sidewalk protection along Commonwealth Avenue and at the rear of the brownstones will begin to facilitate the landscaping work in these areas.
  • On Wednesday, demolition of the concrete pad used for the foundation of the tower crane will begin using a large excavator and hydraulic hammer. This will be a noisy activity that may produce ground vibrations.
  • On Monday, the project will begin utilizing a second shift, from 3pm to 11pm, to advance interior work. Sunday’s third shift work for demolition within the tower’s core will continue from 11pm to 7am throughout the week.
  • Please be aware in addition to daily deliveries, trucks with large trailers will be staged adjacent to and moving around the site and pedestrians should be aware of all safety and directional signage in the areas as pedestrian and vehicle travel paths may be altered.
