Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 05/13/22

During the weekend of May 14th

  • On Saturday, dismantling the tower crane will begin. Starting at 7 am Saturday, crews will arrive to the site and set up traffic management and safety systems. Trucks and trailers will stage on Granby Street, while the parking lane on Granby Street will be used for vehicular traffic. On Saturday and Sunday, using the tower crane’s self-climbing system, sections of the tower crane mast will be removed and loaded on to trailers to be removed from the site.
  • Please be aware trucks with large trailers will be staged adjacent to and moving around the site and pedestrians should be aware of all safety and directional signage in the areas as pedestrian and vehicle travel paths may be altered.

All sections of the atrium’s stair have been set in place, infill of the stair landing and treads/risers will follow.

During the week of May 16th

  • Dismantling the tower crane will resume Monday and continue throughout the week. On Monday, 550-ton and 100-ton mobile assist cranes will mobilize to the site and set up next to the tower crane in the alley between the Center for Computing & Data Sciences and the Bay State Road brownstones. The cranes will assist in removal of the tower crane boom, counterweights, cab, remaining mast sections, and connection to the tower’s core. On Thursday, May 19th, upon completion of the loadout of the tower crane collar and mast sections, the assist cranes will demobilize.
  • Installation of curtain wall panels at the various leave-out locations throughout the tower will continue.
  • At the atrium, crews continue to install the monumental stair focusing on infilling the landings and installing treads/risers that were left out for rigging and attaching to the structure, crews will also be installing handrails.
  • In the lower half of the building, installation of finishes will continue on the floors 2 through 5. The folding partition will continue to be assembled in the lower level. Installation of the whiteboards in the classrooms continues. Installation of lockers will begin on the lower level, millwork install will continue throughout. Painting and ceiling install will continue on floors 4 and 5. Polishing of the concrete floors continues.
  • Wall framing continues on the 15th, 16th, and 17th floors, and hanging drywall continues on floors 12 and 13.
  • The elevator subcontractor will continue the installation of elevators 1, 2, and 3 on the north side of the towers core involving raceways and elevator rail components.
  • Installation of the roofing system at the terraces will continue with the focus being on the 12th and 15th floor terraces.
  • At the soffits on the underside of the 12th and 15th floors, installation of waterproofing, framing components, and metal panels continue.
  • At the corner of Bay State Road and Granby Street, crews will continue installing foundations for landscape features.
  • Please be aware in addition to daily deliveries, trucks with large trailers will be staged adjacent to and moving around the site and pedestrians should be aware of all safety and directional signage in the areas as pedestrian and vehicle travel paths may be altered.
