Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 04/22/22

During the weekend of April 23rd

  • On Saturday, installation of the atrium’s monumental stair will continue. Framing, hanging, and finishing drywall will continue in the tower. Crews will also be on site assembling and installing curtain wall panels. Workers will continue applying fireproofing materials to the building’s steel beams and columns.

During the week of April 25th

  • Installation of curtain wall panels at the various leave-out locations throughout the tower.
  • In the podium, finishes are underway. The folding partition will be installed as a divider between two of the lower-level classrooms. Installation of millwork has begun on the 2nd floor. Painting and ceiling install will continue on floors 4 and 5.
  • At the atrium, crews continue to install the monumental stair with focus on rigging the section connecting the ground to the second floor into place and securing it to the building’s structure. Crews will also continue installing rails on the previously installed stair runs.
  • In the tower, finishes are also underway on the lower floors with floor polishing, ceiling installation, and wall painting occurring.
  • On the 7th through 13th floors of the tower wall framing, hanging drywall, and finishing walls are underway.
  • On the 14th and 15th floors, crews will be applying an intumescent coating to the steel columns.
  • The elevator subcontractor will continue the installation of elevators 1, 2, and 3 on the north side of the tower’s core. Installation of elevator cabs and final adjustments continue at podium elevators 7 and 8.
  • Installation of the roofing system at the terraces will continue with the focus being on the 15th and 17th-floor terraces.
  • Crews will continue working from the elevated deck constructing the soffit at the underside of the 10th floor along Commonwealth Avenue and the underside of the 12th floor along Granby Street.
  • At the corner of Bay State Road and Granby Street, crews will continue installing infrastructure for the storm drainage system.
  • Trucking activity to and from the site will be occurring daily with trucks entering and exiting the designated gates.
