Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 11/6/20

During the weekend of November 7:

  • There will be no work on the GSDM site this weekend.

During the week starting November 9:

  • There will be no night-shift work this week.
  • The roof replacement in all remaining areas of the existing GSDM building was completed on Friday, November 6. On Monday, November 9, a crane will be in place on the north side of the building, for the removal of the demolished and excess materials from the building’s existing roof. Crews will continue working for another one to two weeks on completing the finishing flashing details around the perimeter of the building and all equipment located on the roof.
  • Following successful inspections of the mechanical, electrical, fire alarm, and plumbing systems, as well as the final building inspection last week, City of Boston inspectors are expected to do a full review of the life-safety elements of the existing fifth-floor patient treatment center. This is the last step toward achieving the next big milestone of the project: the certificate of occupancy for Phase 3 of this four-phase building project. The date for this inspection will be subject to availability of the inspectors.
    • The installation of four new microscopes in the newly renovated fifth-floor patient treatment center (two microscopes for each of the two group practices) will be completed this week.
    • Following the State inspection of the first of the two existing elevators under renovation, crews will begin preparations for new emergency smoke curtains to be installed in the elevator lobbies on floors one through seven within the elevator construction area.

Please consult these additional resources as needed:

    • GSDM COVID-19 information: http://www.bu.edu/dental/covid-19-information/. This webpage is a repository of all communications issued to the school community by the GSDM leadership. It also includes links to the Boston University and Boston University Medical Campus COVID-19 websites.

Please be sure to note all directional signage and markings within the GSDM building, and the designated stairs for travel between floors. Each stairway is marked with signage that shows the permissible direction of travel. Circulation may be revised to accommodate both construction and proper physical distancing as the school continues to evolve plans and operations for the phased re-opening and increased number of people in the school. These actions align with the COVID-19 guidelines issued by state regulatory agencies and by Boston University.

We hope that you remain safe and healthy. As always, your safety is imperative!
