Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 8/28/20
During the weekend of August 29:
- On Saturday, a small work crew will be installing the mounting plates and support columns for the remaining nine microscopes in the new Patient Treatment Centers on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the new west addition. Following the set-up of this hardware, the supporting electrical and HDMI wires will be installed in the respective locations prior to the installation of the microscope units in mid-September.
- Carpenters will be working in the new Patient Treatment Centers on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the new west addition installing finishing touches on the dividing panels between the patient treatment chairs.
- A separate crew of carpenters will also be returning to work in the 635 Albany Street GSDM building during the weekend, when there are fewer occupants, to continue patching drywall in the electrical closets in the stairwells.
During the week starting August 31:
- There will be no night-shift work this week.
- Mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work in the existing offices in the present fourth-floor Patient Treatment Center will continue in the designated work area, with completion and return for GSDM use anticipated before Labor Day, September 7.
- Inside the existing bathrooms, installation of the doors and hardware will begin on the first four floors, while interior partitions will be installed on the seventh floor. Floor and wall tile work will be completed on the fifth and sixth floors by the end of the week, followed by the installation of plumbing fixtures on the fifth floor.
- In the existing fifth-floor Patient Treatment Center, renovations will continue, with the installation of the grid system holding the acoustical ceiling tiles. Painting will begin in the laboratory areas, followed by the installation of the ceiling grid system at the end of the week. In the patient registration area, taping and sanding of the newly installed drywall will begin this week.
- Upgrades to the existing elevators will continue, with crews working on the hoist mechanical system within the elevator construction area.
Please consult these additional resources as needed:
- GSDM COVID-19 information: http://www.bu.edu/dental/covid-19-information/. This webpage is a repository of all communications issued to the school community by the GSDM leadership. It also includes links to the Boston University and Boston University Medical Campus COVID-19 websites.
Please be sure to note all directional signage and markings within the building as you navigate in and around GSDM. Circulation may be revised to accommodate both construction and proper physical distancing as the school continues to evolve plans and operations for the phased re-opening and increased number of people in the school. These actions align with the COVID-19 guidelines issued by state regulatory agencies and by Boston University.
As a reminder, it is important that everyone be mindful about using the designated stairs for upward or downward travel between floors. This is critical to maintain proper distancing and to avoid crossing paths with others in a narrow area. Each stairway is marked with signage that shows the permissible direction of travel.
We hope that you remain safe and healthy. As always, your safety is imperative!
