Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 7/24/20
During the weekend of July 25th
Driving H-Piles for the Crane Pad
The site will be open for construction activities on Saturday. Crews will be on site with drilling equipment to gather soil samples in the area of the unforeseen underground oil tank.
Installation of the H-Piles for the crane pad will continue.
During the week of July 27th
Installation of the H-Piles for the crane pad will continue using a combination of vibrations and a hydraulic hammer. The piles will first be vibrated roughly 200 feet into the ground until reaching bedrock. The hydraulic hammer will then be used to hammer the piles the remaining ten feet into bedrock.
Excavation for the building foundations will begin, the first cut is from the existing grade to roughly eight feet down, crews will be excavating in the “podium” portion of the building, closest to Sargent College.
Crews will be working on Granby Street, installing a sewer line from the street to inside the property line of the site that will be connected to the new building.
Equipment to assist with the installation of jet grout will mobilize to the site. The jet grouting operation involves drilling into the ground and filling the created void with grout as the drill head is backed out of the hole. This activity will be used to close the gaps between the support of excavation sheets in two locations where underground utilities prevented the installation of the sheets.
As activity in and around the site begins to increase, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered.
We will continue to provide you with up to date information via these notifications.
