Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 7/17/20
During the week of July 20th
Mini pile installation continues
Installation of mini piles will continue; this activity will be working east to west across the site.
Following the completion of the sheeting for the Support of Excavation (SOE) system, the rig will be used to install piles that support the tower crane. These H-Piles will be driven using a combination of vibrations and a hydraulic hammer. The piles will first be vibrated roughly 200 feet into the ground until reaching bedrock. At the end of next week, the hydraulic hammer will arrive onsite with an anticipated start date to hammer the piles ten feet into bedrock for Monday, July 27.
Excavation for the building foundations will begin, the first cut is from the existing grade to roughly eight feet down; crews will be excavating in the “podium” portion of the building, closest to Sargent College.
Crews will be working on Commonwealth Avenue and Granby Street, making utility connections and installing lines into the site. Crews will continue pulling primary electrical cables for the temporary power source to be utilized during construction.
As activity in and around the site begins to increase, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered.
We will continue to provide you with up to date information via these notifications.
