Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 2/14/20
During the weekend of February 15:
- On Sunday, night-shift work will continue, starting at 10 p.m. and continuing until 6 a.m.; during this time, workers will be installing new telephone and data communications in the existing GSDM building. Activities will include transferring the telecommunications service to connections throughout the new north and west additions. These night shifts will continue from Sunday through Thursday until early March.
During the week starting February 17:
- In preparation for the opening of the new seven-story west and two-story north additions to GSDM, workers will be completing the final details involving placement of furniture, AV equipment, and security systems. Testing of newly installed equipment and final cleaning will also continue this week.
- City of Boston inspections for Phase 2 will continue with the testing of the new stair pressurization system on Wednesday evening, February 19. Following this inspection, City of Boston inspectors will do a full life-safety review of all building areas in Phase 2. This is the last step toward achieving the next big milestone for the project: the certificate of occupancy for both the seven-story west and two-story north additions.
- Crews will resume work on the new GSDM receiving area (the former loading dock) on Albany Street. Electricians will be bringing power to the new gate that will allow deliveries into the receiving area and then secure the area afterward. This area will continue to be developed as exterior work progresses and the areas restricted for construction are reduced.
- The project team is continuing to finalize the details and site logistics for the transition into Phase 3 of the School’s addition and renovation project. The scope of Phase 3 will include the renovation of the existing fifth-floor patient treatment center, upgrades to the stair tower finishes and railings, renovations to the toilet rooms in the elevator lobbies, and upgrades and a retrofit of the present elevators. The details on what to expect during these renovations will be outlined in upcoming Project Updates in the next few weeks.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
