CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 12/20/19
During December 20th – January 3rd:
(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, December 21st and Sunday, December 22nd. Also, please note that there is a scheduled shutdown of the building’s heating system on Saturday, December 21st between 6:00 am and 2:00 pm to allow for work to be completed on the mechanical systems.)
General:
Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the concert hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.
Exterior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, December 21st and Sunday, December 22nd. This work will consist of the installation and welding of the window archways along the west and south facades. As well as the installation of limestone caps on the east façade and limestone window headers on the south façade.
For the remainder of the week, the exterior work will consist of:
East Façade
- The installation of the limestone capstone will begin through 12/24.
- The removal of the staging will begin after the holiday and will continue through the new year.
South Façade
- The installation of the parapet limestone will continue on the southeast facade (from the center entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will continue on level 5 on the southwest facade (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).
- The installation of parapet limestone will begin right before the new year.
West Façade
- The installation of the level 5 window headers and flashing will begin.
- Work on the parapet will consist of the installation of staples and flashing with relieving angles and parapet limestone to follow.
North Façade
- The removal and installation of new steel relieving angles is ongoing.
- The winterization of the façade continues in preparation for the cold weather.
Interior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, December 21st and Sunday, December 22nd. This work will consist of installing the hard ceiling on the Comm Ave entrance, plastering the ceilings and framing in the movement studio, as well as the welding and installation of piping in the basement mechanical rooms.
For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:
On the Ground Level
- The welding and installation of piping in the mechanical rooms continues.
On the 1st Level
- Decorative painting in the art gallery continues along with the installation of light fixtures.
- The installation of tile and plaster on the art gallery ramp and stairs will begin after the new year.
- The installation of the air handling unit at the mezzanine level will be ongoing over the next few weeks.
- The installation of floor and wall tile as well as ceiling grid and paint will occur on the mechanical mezzanine.
- The concrete ramp in the movement studio will begin followed by the assembly of the sprung floor.
- Framing of the display cases on the east and south walls of the movement studio will begin shortly before the new year.
- The installation of the sprung floor will begin in the student lounge and will continue through the new year along with the taping and plastering of walls.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
