CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 12/06/19
During December 6th – December 13th:
(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, December 7th and Sunday, December 8th)
General:
On Tuesday, December 10th the lower parking lot (Lot D) at 25 Buick St will be closed as a crane will be utilizing the lot to bring materials onto the lower roof of 885 Comm Ave.
Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.
Exterior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, December 7th. This work will consist of the erecting of winter protection on the scaffolding, bringing stone onto the scaffolding in anticipation for the following week, and the installation and welding of the window archways along the west and south facades.
East Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone reinstallation will be completed on level 5.
- The staging removal operation will begin and will continue for the next few weeks.
West Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone reinstallation will continue on level 5.
- Installation of steel window arches will continue.
South Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone reinstallation will continue on level 5 at the eastern half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone reinstallation will continue on level 5 at the western half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).
- The installation of steel window arches will continue.
North Façade
- Brick joint cutting and repointing operations will continue.
Interior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, December 7th and Sunday, December 8th. This work will consist of the patching and plastering of ceilings in the movement and theater studios as well as the installation of ceilings in the elevator lobby, main entry lobby, classrooms 154 and 156, and the Commonwealth Gallery. Ductwork will also be installed on the mezzanine level.
For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:
On the Ground Level
- The insulation of new ductwork will continue in the mechanical areas along the southeastern corner behind the ethnomusicology classroom and instrument storage.
On the 1st Level
- The installation of ceiling tiles will begin in rooms 154 & 156.
- The installation of the air handling unit on the mezzanine level will continue over the next few weeks.
- The repair of the plaster ceilings has begun in the movement and theater studios and will continue over the next week.
- The painting of the ceiling in the theater studio and the framing of the wall separating the movement and theater studios will begin.
- The installation of ceilings will begin in the elevator lobby and the Comm Ave center entrance lobby.
- The repair of the plaster ceiling in the art gallery will continue over the next two weeks followed by the painting of the ceiling.
- The framing of the art gallery office will continue.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
