CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 11/15/19
During November 15th – November 22nd:
(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, November 16th)
General:
Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.
Exterior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, November 16th. This work will consist of installing stone above the 5th level on the east elevation, removing stone on the 5th level, installing stone on the west elevation, and repointing brick on the north elevation.
For the remainder of the week, the exterior work will consist of:
East Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will continue on level 5.
West Façade
- Removal of stone lintels on level 5 will begin.
South Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will continue on level 5 at the eastern half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
- Masonry demolition at the window lintels will continue on level 5 at the western half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).
North Façade
- Brick joint cutting and repointing operations will continue through the end of the month.
Interior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, November 16th. This work will consist of installing and insulating ductwork in the basement as well as patching of ceilings and sprinkler work in the art gallery and theater studio.
For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:
On the Ground Level
- Investigation of hot water piping to the art gallery will continue.
- Work to insulate new ductwork in the mechanical areas along the southeastern corner behind the ethnomusicology classroom and instrument storage will continue.
On the 1st Level
- The installation of ceiling grid in classrooms 154 and 156 will continue with lighting to follow.
- The installation of the air handling unit at the mezzanine level will continue for the next two weeks.
- Lighting hangers and sprinkler work in the movement studio will continue.
- Ceiling framing in the elevator lobby will continue.
- The repair of the plaster ceiling in the art gallery will continue over the next two weeks.
- Framing of the art gallery office will continue.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
