CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 11/08/19
During November 8th-November 15th:
(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, November 9th):
General:
Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.
Exterior:
East Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will continue on level 5.
West Façade
- Patching and repointing of stone are ongoing on all levels.
South Façade
- Removal of limestone lintels and relieving angles will commence on level 5 at the eastern half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
- Masonry demolition at the window lintels will commence on level 5 at the western half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).
North Façade
- Brick joint cutting and repointing operations will continue through the end of the month.
Interior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, November 9th. This work will consist of the patching of ceilings and the insulating of ductwork in the art gallery, the cutting of the plaster ceiling in the student lounge/motion studio, and work on the ceiling in the elevator lobby.
For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:
On the Ground Level
- Investigating of hot water piping to the art gallery is ongoing.
- Work to insulate new ductwork will continue in storage rooms along the corridor near the student government office.
On the 1st Level
- The installation of steel framing at the mezzanine level has commenced and will continue over the next couple of weeks.
- The Commonwealth Gallery continues to have lighting and ceiling installed.
- HVAC equipment, lighting, and ceiling work continue in the elevator lobby moving towards the art gallery.
- The installation of lighting in the art gallery will continue.
- The repair of the plaster ceiling in the art gallery has begun and will continue over the next two weeks.
- Light hangers as well as fire alarm wiring will begin installation in the movement studio as well as room 102.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
