CFA Renovations – Construction Update – 11/01/19
During November 1st – November 8th:
(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday November 2nd):
General:
Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Comm Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.
Exterior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, November 2nd. This work will consist of the setting of limestone about the east, west & south elevations. On the north elevation the masons will be performing repointing, joint cutting, and minor demolition work.
East Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will commence on level 5.
West Façade
- Parapet repair, flashing, and stone re-installation will commence on level 5.
South Façade
- Stone repointing & stone installation on level 3 will continue and will commence on level 4 at the eastern half of the building (from the center Entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
- Stone repointing & stone installation on level 2 will continue and will commence on level 3 at the western half of the building (from the center entrance of the building heading towards Agganis Arena).
North Façade
- Repointing as well as the demolition of steel relieving angles and installation of new angles will commence.
Interior:
There is work scheduled for this Saturday, November 2nd. This work will consist of the patching of ceilings in the Art gallery, the installation of flooring in the corridor outside the Theater and motion Studios on the 1st floor. There may be steel being installed on the first floor if required, this will not be known until the end of the week.
For the remainder of the week, the interior work will consist of:
On the Ground Level
- Relocation of water pipes will occur during the overnight along the southeast corner of the lower level behind the ethnomusicology classroom and adjacent open labs.
- Work to insulate new ductwork will continue in storage rooms along the corridor near the student government office.
On the 1st Level
- On Friday November 1st, the stairwell at the Comm Ave entrance will be closed at the 1st floor as work will commence on the new doorway that will lead to the elevator lobby. Please note that this is a one-day event.
- The installation of steel framing at the mezzanine level has started and will continue over the next couple of weeks.
- The Commonwealth Gallery continues to have HVAC equipment and sprinkler work installed.
- HVAC equipment, lighting, and ceiling work continue in the elevator lobby moving towards the art gallery.
- The installation of lighting in the art gallery will continue.
On the 4th Level
- The restrooms are nearing completion and are expected to be finished in the coming days.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
