CFA Facade, Envelope, and Accessibility Renovations – Construction Update – 9/27/19
During September 27th – October 4th:
(Please note that there is work scheduled for Saturday, September 28th)
General:
Temporary signs are posted to help direct you through the first floor. The main building access is through the west entrance near the Concert Hall. Stair access directly off Commonwealth Ave will be open and closed periodically as construction continues and signage will indicate status. The central stair is always available for emergency egress.
Exterior:
There is work scheduled on the east, west and south facades of the building for this Saturday, September 28th. This work will consist of stone repointing on levels 4 and 5 on the east elevation, limestone installation on levels 3 and 4 on the west elevation and washing of the façade on all levels of the eastern half of the south elevation (from the main entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
For the remainder of the week, the exterior work will consist of:
East Façade
- Steel lintel repair, stone repointing & stone installation on levels 2,3 & 4.
West Façade
- Steel lintel repair, stone repointing & stone installation on levels 2 & 3.
South Façade
- Work will commence on the installation of relieving angles on the 5th floor at the eastern half of the building (from the main entrance of the building heading towards the BU Bridge).
North Façade
- Brick cutting will continue for the next two weeks or so.
Interior:
On the Ground Level
- Installation of ductwork is continuing in rooms along the corridor that houses the Student Government Office and various storage rooms on the exterior side (south).
- Exploratory work continues along the exterior side (south) of the ethnomusicology instrument storage area heading east behind the open labs.
On the 1st Level
- The installation of HVAC piping & ductwork will continue about the corridor outside the rehearsal room (RM 105) and class laboratory (RM 109) as well as inside room 109 during non-classroom hours.
- The Commonwealth Gallery continues to have HVAC equipment, sprinkler work and ceiling grid installed.
- HVAC equipment, lighting and ceiling work in the elevator lobby is progressing.
- The Concert Hall ramp is progressing with the installation of handrails having begun. Handrails about the Concert Hall steps will soon commence.
On the 4th Level
- Temporary walls have been constructed outside the restrooms and fans have been added to the windows to help control dust. Rough plumbing has begun with the construction of the rest room walls to follow.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
