Geothermal Well Drilling Initiative – Construction Update – 4/12/19

During the week of April 15th

Park Test Well #3

  • Driller has averaged approximately 100 ft. per day for a total depth of 960 ft.
  • This week, starting on 4/15, the drilling contractor anticipates continuing with the mud rotary drilling into bedrock at geothermal test well #3. A water tank truck will periodically be crossing Granby Street to access the hydrant on Bay State Road.
  • The drilling operations will be ongoing between 9 am and 5:30 pm, and we anticipate higher than usual daily noise levels over the next two weeks.
  • Upon completion of the drilling operation, the drilling contractor will be cleaning the bore hole with approximately 7,000 gallons of water which will be pumped into a storage tank and filtered before discharging to the storm drainage system as permitted.

Alley

  • The geotechnical engineer completed the work to obtain additional soil samples using shallow drilling at two locations in the alley behind Sargent College.
  • Temporary fencing will be installed behind Sargent College for the drilling material stockpile. Select parking spots behind Sargent will be impacted for approximately two weeks.
  • A vacuum excavation truck will be removing the drilling material from the container and transferring it to the stockpile area prior to removal from the site

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered. Your safety is imperative!
