Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 11/2/18
During the weekend of November 3:
- On Saturday at 8 p.m. through 8 a.m. Sunday, there will be an electrical shutdown of the entire GSDM building to permit connecting the new electrical panels for phase 1. Due to the extent of this shutdown, the building will be closed to all during this timeframe. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
- On Saturday and Sunday, work will continue on the new patient entrance and porch. Activities will include continuing to apply the fireproof coating on the structural columns (weather-permitting), framing the canopy, and installing glass at the entrance. Completing more of this work above the stair and ramp area over the weekend continues to enable the work at ground level during the week.
- On Saturday, masons will be working in both stairwell lobbies on the first floor to patch openings from former piping and ductwork that were removed during the renovation. Access through these areas will not be affected.
- Also on Saturday, during the day, electricians will be working in different areas on floors 2 through 7. This limited work will not affect access or power to any locations.
During the week of November 5:
- On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, crews will complete the installation of the new telecommunications system from Albany Street to the GSDM building. The current pedestrian walkway in front of the project site will be temporarily closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on all three days. Pedestrians should plan to cross Albany Street and walk on the other side of the street at the corner of E. Newton and Albany Streets and at the crosswalk in front of the Naval Blood Building located at 615 Albany Street. We greatly appreciate the public’s cooperation during this sidewalk closure.
- Installation of the window frames and glass will continue on the first and second floors along East Newton and Albany Streets.
- The final leg of pile-drilling will wrap up at the north elevation along the driveway to the loading dock of Newton Pavilion. The equipment will then move to the west to complete the final piles in preparation for foundation work for the new seven-story addition.
- Work will continue on the foundation system for the new loading dock. This includes steel reinforcement bar installation for the basement walls in this area.
- Painting of partition walls will continue in the new admissions offices, the patient treatment centers’ waiting area, and the student affairs offices on the first floor.
- Installation of interior finishes will begin on the first floor, including the addition of ceramic tile on the toilet room walls, casework, and light fixtures.
- Buildout of the first-floor electric and IT rooms will continue. Power and data services from these rooms will support the newly renovated spaces on the first floor and the entire new building addition.
- Installation of the ceiling tile grid system will continue in the basement.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
