Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 8/31/18
During the weekend of September 1:
- Utility work on Albany Street, from the GSDM building to 650 Albany Street, will continue on Saturday in line with City of Boston permits. The activities for this weekend will be focused on paving the newly connected sewer line trench and installing the new drainage line to the GSDM property.
- Also, on Saturday, work will continue in the basement on backfilling the recently-inspected underground plumbing trenches. Crews will be on site to continue installing a portion of the structural steel (at the former location of the cafeteria) for the future first-floor IT room.
During the week of September 4:
- Installation of the new building foundation system will continue throughout the week along East Newton and Albany Streets. This segment of continuing work involves constructing the porch that connects the existing GSDM entrance (the future academic entrance) on East Newton Street to the new patient entrance at the corner of Albany and East Newton Streets. The new entrance will open at the end of Phase 1 of the project.
- Installation of the new first-floor window frames will begin next week starting at the East Newton Street elevation.
- Installation of new piping and ductwork to support the School’s new mechanical systems will continue in the basement and on the first floor of the GSDM building.
- New partition walls on the first floor of the building are being completed with a drywall finish.
- Basement utility trenches are being outfitted with a waterproofing system and structural reinforcement bars in advance of infilling the trenches with concrete; the new concrete will bring the floor level up to the level of the remaining foundation slab.
- Construction of masonry-block walls in the basement will begin along with the installation of new door frames within these walls.
- Work will begin on extending the foundation system at the former loading dock area. This work is required to build out the new water service room in the basement to house new water-line connections from Albany Street.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
