Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 6/22/18
During the weekend of June 23:
- Utility work on Albany Street, from the GSDM building to 650 Albany Street, will continue on Saturday and Sunday in line with City of Boston permits. Please be aware of signage and barriers denoting lane changes during this time.
- On Saturday, installation of plumbing lines will continue on the first floor within the construction zone. Also, on Saturday, removal of first floor windows and saw-cutting of the existing exterior wall will continue. This work is an integral part of the construction of the new main entrance doors and glazing.
During the week of June 25:
- Pile-drilling around the perimeter of the existing GSDM building, between GSDM and the Boston Medical Center/Newton Pavilion, will continue into next week for the 7-story addition.
- Installation of the earth-retention system (SOE) will continue along the edge of the BMC loading dock, heading towards Newton Pavilion, for the remainder of the week. The equipment used to vibrate the SOE sheet pilings, required for installation, will then progress toward East Newton Street and continue installation through 6/29/18, pending weather and project scheduling requirements.
- We continue to carefully monitor the vibration and sound associated with this operation to ensure safety for all and confirmation that the vibration does not exceed thresholds established by the project’s geotechnical engineer. We appreciate your patience as we pursue the work necessary for renovating and building the new addition to the Dental School.
- Utility work in Albany Street will continue, from the existing GSDM building towards 609 Albany Street. This work will be performed during normal business hours, in line with City of Boston permits.
- Saw-cutting of the existing basement concrete slab will continue, to create trenches for new under-slab utilities.
- Installation of new piping and duct work to support the new building’s mechanical systems will continue in the basement and on the first floor.
- Removal of the existing windows on the first floor, along East Newton Street and Albany Street, will continue.
- The project’s structural steel subcontractor will begin work on site next week to begin layout and installation of the clips for the existing GSDM exterior walls. The clips will be used to secure the steel framing to the building for the new entrance canopy. Noise and vibrations may be expected by the occupants of the second floor along East Newton Street and Albany Street during the clip installation.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
