Emily Keys Innes
Biography:
Emily Innes, AICP, LEED AP ND is an award-winning planner with over fourteen years of experience in planning and urban design. In 2020, she founded Innes Associates to work with communities throughout New England on issues around land use. At Innes, Emily oversees firm operations and the client experience. She also leads the Planning and Urban Design Division.
Emily’s primary focus is helping communities understand how the physical use of land has a significant impact on the social, economic, and environmental health of the community. Emily was the former Director of Planning for Harriman and began her planning career at The Cecil Group, which merged with Harriman in 2015. She has a BA in Linguistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the MIT Professional Certificate in Real Estate Finance and Development.
A former member of the Milton Planning Board and the town’s finance committee, Emily also served as the chair of Milton’s Master Plan Committee. She co-taught the capstone course for Boston University’s City Planning and Urban Affairs Program from 2021-2023 and remains on the CPUA Board. She taught a course in Sustainable Design at the Boston Architectural College in summer 2024.
Emily has also spoken on zoning and housing issues for the Massachusetts Municipal Lawyers Association, the Urban Land Institute, the Greater Boston Real Estate Association, and the Citizens Planner Training Collaborative. She is a member of the Urban Land Institute, and serves on the Real Estate Advisory Committee, the Climate Resiliency Committee, and the Urban Development Council.
