About
Welcome to the Children’s Center! Since 1978, our Center has provided high-quality early childhood education and care to families in the Boston University community. For over 40 years, our program was located near West Campus and consisted of one large family-style classroom serving 33 children ages two through five.
In the summer of 2020, the Center moved into a beautifully renovated historic Tudor Revival mansion in the Cottage Farm neighborhood of Brookline and began serving children from infancy through the start of Kindergarten. The Center has always sought to be an extension of home for the children and families in our community, making this historic home a perfect setting for our program.
At the Center, we strive to create a learning environment that is safe, nurturing, and stimulating. Our program is grounded in Emergent Curriculum, where children’s interests and experiences guide their learning. We draw from well-respected approaches, including Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Constructivist practices, supporting children as active participants in their own growth and discovery.
Family partnership is central to our approach. By working closely with families, we build a strong, supportive community where children, parents, and educators learn, grow, and thrive together.
The Children’s Center is a nonprofit, University-owned and operated childcare center. We are guided by our mission and values, and our budget is designed to provide your family with the highest-quality early childhood educational experience. Your child’s tuition directly supports all aspects of our program, including low teacher-child ratios, professional development for staff, and high-quality, developmentally appropriate classroom materials. With generous support from Boston University, we provide a rich learning environment where every child can thrive each day.
