Evidence of Insurance

Boston University is routinely required to provide evidence of the institution’s insurance when entering into contracts with other parties.  This documentation confirms the existence and key terms of Boston University’s insurance policies, including coverage types, limits, and effective dates.

The following documents shall be used to communicate relevant details of Boston University’s insurance program.

Memorandum of Insurance (MOI) – General, Professional & Automobile Liability

Boston University utilizes a Memorandum of Insurance to provide up-to-date, web-based information about the University’s insurance program. The MOI is prepared by Marsh, the University’s insurance broker, and includes key details such as policy numbers, limits, effective dates, and insurers. All information is subject to the terms, conditions, and exclusions of the underlying policies.

Because the University’s liability policies include provisions for automatic additional insured status and waivers of subrogation when required by written contract, Boston University does not issue individual Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for most routine requests. External parties seeking evidence of insurance should rely on the MOI, which serves as the University’s primary source of insurance verification.

Evidence of Workers’ Compensation Insurance – US Only

Boston University maintains Workers’ Compensation insurance in all states where the University employs personnel.  This coverage includes Employers’ Liability Insurance.

Evidence of Property Insurance

Boston University maintains a comprehensive property insurance program that protects against physical loss or damage to University-owned buildings, equipment, and other insured property.

Credentialing – Insurance Verification (Kerberos Login Required)

Boston University provides professional liability insurance for its faculty in connection with their approved academic, clinical, and research activities. Upon request, the University can supply documentation confirming professional liability coverage, including limits, effective dates, and scope of coverage for credentialing or privileging purposes.
