The duties of the CFD Graduate Fellow will including conducting and presenting original research and helping to organize the seminar on EU and US Border Externalization Regimes, including gathering and posting seminar materials, editing a monthly newsletter about the seminar and other communications, and ensuring that the seminar has the greatest impact possible. Graduate Fellows will also have the opportunity to contribute to the events and projects of CFD, including a book project on border externalization. Our Graduate Fellows will benefit from research support and mentorship as well as a lively and committed atmosphere of intellectual inquiry that is truly interdisciplinary.

About the Center on Forced Displacement

Our Graduate Fellows are core members of CFD, a university-wide research center that fosters interdisciplinary research and engagement with the global challenge of forced displacement. Our projects, research activities, events, and programs bring together multidisciplinary teams of researchers, practitioners, and artists from across schools and colleges at BU and around the world. These collaborations are crucial to helping us better understand the history and sources of forced displacement, clarify the policies and practices that exacerbate or alleviate human suffering, and generate ethical interventions to improve the lives of displaced communities and their hosts.

Qualifications

We seek exceptional, engaged graduate students who have knowledge of forced displacement and a commitment to developing concrete and creative interventions to benefit displaced people. The CFD Graduate Fellow will be enrolled at Boston University in any terminal degree graduate program while pursuing a project related to forced displacement and/or border regimes.

CFD actively seeks to diversify its staff, student body, and faculty, recognizing that diversity of experience deepens all intellectual endeavors and is especially crucial when engaging with the global challenge of forced displacement. We seek to embed—within all programs and events—the principle that pluralism in any enterprise is a source of insight and effectiveness. Boston University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
