Kelly Dowley

Kelly grew up in the Boston area and got her BA in Modern Languages with a Minor in Linguistics from Northeastern University. She received her MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She has lived in Caen and Paris, France where she was a high school English teaching assistant and an English instructor for business professionals. She has also worked in Istanbul, Turkey where she taught English in language schools and a university.

Kelly values bringing students’ culture and own knowledge into the classroom and encourages them to be autonomous in their language learning. She believes that it is important to know her students as part of a way to develop a successful learning environment. Outside the classroom, Kelly is interested in research related to bilingual education and global language policies.

Kelly is an avid language learner and speaks French and Turkish. She has traveled through most of Europe, parts of the Middle East, and South East Asia. Besides traveling, Kelly trains in kickboxing, snowboards, and practices classical guitar.
