New England Centenarian Study
The New England Centenarian Study (NECS) has been enrolling and studying centenarians and their family members since 1995. The NECS has been based at Boston University’s Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine since 2002 and it is codirected by Robert D. Evans Distinguished Professor Tom Perls MD, MPH and Stacy Andersen, PhD.
Brain Health Research Lab/Neuropsychology Group at the Framingham Heart Study
Within the FHS Neuropsychology group, our goals are to determine factors associated with brain aging. While much of our research centers around dementia and the most common subtype of Alzheimer’s disease, our interests are more broadly focused on cognitive aging across the continuum of normal to impaired. We routinely give neuropsychological tests and brain MRI scans to our participants to characterize behavioral and structural age-related changes.
Neuromotor Recovery Laboratory
Our team at the Boston University Neuromotor Recovery Laboratory (NRL) works to develop, test, and translate rehabilitation technologies and interventions. We are scientists, clinicians, and engineers skilled in the planning and execution of development-focused research projects and hypothesis-driven experiments. We collaborate with clinical and industry partners to transform our research discoveries into tools, technologies, and interventions that can restore movement, improve health, and elevate the quality of life of people with neuromotor impairments.
Center for Neurorehabilitation
We’re a team of researchers and clinicians with expertise in rehabilitation and movement science. All the activities we conduct have a single goal: to advance the quality of rehabilitation for those with neurological disorders. Our research projects investigate the effectiveness of different rehabilitation methods, allowing us to continually refine our strategies and techniques.
Boston Attention and Learning Laboratory
We study the cognitive and neural mechanisms of attention as well as the potential for enhancing attention abilities through cognitive training. To gain insights from multiple perspectives, we perform behavioral, neuroimaging (functional MRI), and cognitive training experiments in healthy subjects and disordered populations (ie hemispatial neglect, TBI/PTSD, prosopagnosia).

For our clients and their families, we’re an acclaimed clinical treatment, learning and support center. For our students, an excellent training environment. And increasingly, for the benefit of people with aphasia worldwide, we’re an ambitious clinical research center.
