In the 2016 QS World University Rankings by Subject, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) placed the BU Departments of Economics and Psychology among the world’s top 50 programs within their disciplines.

The Department of Economics ranked 35th (18th in the US), and the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences was named the 45th best psychology program in the world (20th in the US).

This is a particularly notable achievement for the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, as its faculty and staff set a goal of being ranked in the top 20 psychology programs in the US well before the results were announced.

“This ranking recognizes the tremendous research productivity of the faculty, students and staff working in the laboratories of the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences,” says Department Chair David Somers. “The QS rating system weighs in the impact of faculty research publications and PBS faculty are among the world leaders in clinical psychology, developmental science, and cognitive and systems neuroscience. I’m very proud of our faculty, students and staff.”

In the survey, many CAS departments ranked among the world’s top 100 programs within their disciplines. These include archaeology, biological sciences, English, linguistics, mathematics, philosophy, physics, sociology, and statistics.

The annual QS rankings are based on each program’s academic reputation, student employability after graduation, and research citations.
