Susan K. Jackson Award: Creating Community in the College of Arts & Sciences at Boston University

The Susan K. Jackson Award recognizes faculty, staff, and students who create and nurture community in the College of Arts & Sciences at Boston University. Susan Jackson, a Professor of French and long-time Senior Associate Dean, demonstrated her dedication to CAS in many ways, not least through her care for other people. She provided support, guidance, and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, and administrators from every department, and in doing so she greatly strengthened the College. We celebrate her memory by recognizing those people who, through their actions and initiatives, help foster the unique, vibrant intellectual community of which we are all a part.

There are four award categories: Faculty, Staff, Graduate Student, and Undergraduate Senior. One awardee will be selected in each category to receive the award each year for their work building and nurturing a sense of shared community in CAS as a whole or in its individual departments, programs, and offices. Awards will be presented at end-of-year events in May 2024.

Nominees should exhibit clear and sustained dedication to building lasting connections within the CAS community in areas such as:

  • Peer mentorship and guidance
  • Committed service to others
  • Dedication to enriching the CAS academic community
  • Fostering connections within and across CAS departments, programs, offices, or student groups
  • Organizing and participating in CAS community events, programs, or committees
