On May 16, 2021, the University celebrated all of its graduates as part of a socially distant, but no less historic and jubilant, ceremony. BU’s 148th Commencement featured speeches from US Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), Moderna Therapeutics cofounder and chairman Noubar Afeyan, and a student speaker, as graduates were able to gather at Nickerson Field while family and friends watched from home. Honorary degrees and the Metcalf Cup and Prize and Metcalf Awards for Excellence in Teaching winners were also announced.
