The Robert Rosenthal Memorial Lecture series was founded in honor of Robert Rosenthal, a longtime faculty member of the College of Arts & Sciences economics department. The series brings to campus a prominent economist chosen by economics graduate students, allowing them to interact with speakers and gain insight into their field.

Hosted by the BU Graduate Economics Association and the Department of Economics on April 9, 2010.

2011 Robert Rosenthal Memorial Lecture: How Should Presidents Be Elected?

Eric Maskin, a Nobel laureate and the Albert O. Hirschman Professor of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University, delivers the sixth annual Robert Rosenthal Memorial Lecture, on the topic of how presidents should be [...]elected.

Maskin is best known for his work on the theory of mechanism design. Along with Leonid Hurwicz and Roger Myerson, he was awarded the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics for having “laid the foundations of mechanism design theory.” He is recognized for contributions to other areas of economics as well, including the theory of income inequality, the study of intellectual property rights, and political economy.
The Robert Rosenthal Memorial Lecture series was founded by the Rosenthal family in honor of Robert Rosenthal, a prominent member of the BU economics department.
