Winds, Brass, and Percussion Seating Audition Information

Spring 2025 – CONCERT BAND

All are welcome in concert band. Auditions are for seating assignments only.

Step 1: Fill out the Join webform:

Please visit and fill out the Join a Band webform.

Step 2: Prepare the required audition materials

Please note: A Boston University username and Kerberos password are required. If you do not have one, click here for “Early Bird” registration to obtain one.

Step 3: Record and Upload a video of you playing the audition materials.

-Please use your phone to record a video.  Introduce yourself before playing. Place the phone at least 3 feet away from you playing.

-Save the video with your name as the file name.

All videos must be uploaded by January 15.

Step 4: Register for the appropriate courses

Courses can be found using the MyBU Portals.

Concert Band Course numbers (Please sign up for ONE):

CFA MU 092 A1 – Students should register for this session if they are at full course load.
CFA MU 192 A1 – Students should register for this session if they are NOT at a full course load.

Fall 2024 (All Campus Orchestra)

Step 1: Fill out the Join webform:

Step 2: Schedule your audition

Students who are returning to the concert band do NOT have to audition, however returning students to the orchestra do need to audition. Please make sure that you fill out the Join webform above so we can have music for you at the first rehearsal. For new students please visit our Audition Schedule page to schedule your seating audition.

Audition Location: 300W Babcock St., at the corner of Ashford St. in West Campus (entrance is 100-feet down the Ashford St. side of the building) in the medium ensemble room BAB148.

All students should bring their own sheet music if needed. Printed music will not be available at the audition.

All-Campus Orchestra STRING Auditions – Fall 2024

Please note: A Boston University username and Kerberos password may be required to sign up for an audition time or to download audition materials. If you do not have one, click here for “Early Bird” registration to obtain one.

Step 2: Schedule your audition

Auditions for string players for the Fall 2024 will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, September 3 & 5  from 6:30-9:00 PM in CFA Room 167.

If you have any questions regarding how to set up an audition, please contact the band office at bands@bu.edu.

If you are able, please select times that are adjacent to each other. If you are unable to make any of these time slots, please contact the band office (bands@bu.edu).

Step 3: Prepare the required audition materials

  • Scale requirement: Scale, in slow legato quarter-notes:
    • Violins, Violas, Cellos: E-flat major 3 octaves
    • Bass: A-flat major 2 octaves
  • Prepared selection of your choice:
    • Please prepare 2-3 minutes of any work of your choice that you feel demonstrates your playing at its best.
  • Prepared excerpts:

All students should bring their own sheet music if needed. Printed music will not be available at the audition.
