With the cold weather upon us, you might feel the urge to curl up in bed and stay warm. But if the mood strikes, here are some ways to spend your weekend that don’t involve hibernating! From shopping to outdoor activities to cozy cafe games, there’s something fun for everyone.

Fall BU Art Market

Support the BU community in small business endeavors by visiting this creative art market. Students, faculty, and alumni are coming together to showcase, buy, or exchange paintings, prints, trinkets, photography, poetry, and more. Local DJs will play music, and light snacks and drinks will be served. The event is cosponsored by Innovate@BU.

Friday, November 21, 1 to 6 pm, George Sherman Union Link, 775 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.

Thanksgiving Shopping Market at Boston Public Market

Get your holiday shopping done early and avoid the big-box Black Friday mayhem at this Thanksgiving market. Browse through food, homeware, and gifts—made by local New England artists—to gift your loved ones this holiday season. Admission is free, but bring your wallets for purchases.

Friday, November 21, to Sunday, November 23, 11 am to 6 pm, Boston Public Market, 100 Hanover St., Boston.

Learn to Belay

Ever had the urge to scale the climbing wall at FitRec, but feel intimidated? Come to this Learn to Belay (aka, climb) class and receive instruction from the experts. This course will prepare you to pass the standard belay test given at every climbing gym; it’s meant for both seasoned climbers who need a refresher and newcomers who want to learn the basics. Preregistration is recommended, but drop-ins are welcome. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers.

Friday, November 21, to Sunday, November 23, 5 to 6:30 pm, BU FitRec, 915 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.

Turkey Tracking Group Bike Ride

Join the BU Cycle Kitchen (BUCK) in spotting wild turkeys around Boston—just in time for Thanksgiving! The group will move at a “party pace” and the route spans 8 to 10 miles. Contact BUCK for additional information.

Saturday, November 22, 11 am to 1 pm, starting at BUCK, 1019 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.

Hidden in the Layers Exhibition

Haunting monochrome portraits, vivid abstract art, and etchings of all kinds line the walls of Boston University Art Galleries 808 Gallery as part of its latest exhibition, Hidden in the Layers. Premiering during the 2024 Venice Biennale—the world’s oldest arts and architecture festival—Hidden in the Layers showcases work from faculty from the College of Fine Arts School of Visual Arts Print Media & Photography program, as well as alumni artists engaged in printmaking. If you missed it, catch the BU Today review of the show here.

Through Saturday, November 22, 11 am to 5 pm, 808 Gallery, 808 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Trident Booksellers & Café Bingo Night

Cozy up at the Trident Café to play bingo with friends, or meet new friends there. Trident hosts as many bingo rounds as possible within the hour-and-a-half time span—and promises lots of prizes and surprises. The full food and beverage menu is available, but seating is first come, first served. Large groups should arrive early to ensure seating. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance.

Saturday, November 22, 7 to 9 pm, Trident Booksellers & Café, 338 Newbury St., Boston.
