With finals in full swing and the weather getting colder (and windier), Bostonians may find it increasingly tempting not to leave their digs. But we’ve put together a list of weekend events in the area that should provide the motivation you need to bundle up and celebrate the winter months and the upcoming holidays.

Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Choreographed by Mikko Nissinen, Boston Ballet’s adaptation of The Nutcracker has been a wildly popular holiday treat for Bostonians since it was first performed in 1958. The time-honored tradition returns to Boston, dazzling audiences with legacy sets, intricate costumes, and professional dancers. As many have for generations, get into the holiday spirit and see the world-famous Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker.

Through Sunday, December 28, at the Citizens Opera House, 539 Washington St., Boston. Anyone 20 years old and under can save 50 percent on their ticket for select performances (see website for additional information). Prices start at $61. Purchase discounted student tickets here.

Student-Made Winter Market Pop-Up

Boston’s popular holiday markets, like Snowport and SoWa Winter Festival, typically draw large crowds to browse their custom-made products. BU is providing its own version of a holiday market with its Student-Made Winter Market Pop Up. Head over to FitRec to check out a selection of crochet and embroidery pieces, jewelry, and art—all student-made! Grab a cup of hot cocoa, too.

December 11, 6 to 8 pm, FitRec, 4 Court Gym, Court 1, 915 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.

Boston Winter Fest

The Boston Winter Carnival and Light Festival offers all the holiday magic you could desire, from an ice castle to Santa’s workshop to an artisan village. The festival features light installations, ski gondolas to sip hot chocolate, holiday treats, and local vendors.

December 12-14 and 19-30, from 5 to 9:30 pm, The Yard at Hood Park, 100 Hood Park Drive, Charlestown. Tickets start at $7 for general admission, with an option to purchase another ticket for a Santa Meet and Greet. Buy tickets here.

Boston University Men’s Hockey vs. Northeastern

The BU men’s hockey Terriers face off against their Northeastern rivals this Saturday at Matthews Arena. It’s the season’s third Huskies-Terriers matchup, with both teams notching a win so far this season.

December 13, 7 pm, Matthews Arena, 238-262 St. Botolph St., Boston.

Mix 104.1’s Deck the Hall Ball

This year’s annual Mix 104.1 holiday concert at Agganis Arena, sponsored by Macy’s, will feature singers AJR, Alexander Stewart, and Max McNown. Attendees are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys for Karson & Kennedy’s 10,000 Toys initiative to benefit Toys for Tots.

December 13, 7:30 to 10:30 pm, Agganis Arena, 925 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. Buy tickets, $60 to $220, here.
