Professor and scholar focused on protecting the rights of people in situations where they were disempowered
George Annas, a visionary health law pioneer who was a supportive mentor and ethical beacon for a generation of students and colleagues, died on May 30, 2025. He was 79.
Annas was a William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor, a School of Public Health professor of health law, ethics, and human rights, and director of the Center for Health Law, Ethics & Human Rights. He also was a professor in the School of Law and in BU’s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.
