What Is Your Favorite Lunar New Year Memory?

Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year, Spring Festival, Seollal, Tết…no matter how you refer to the holiday that marks the beginning of the new year, based on the lunar calendar, everyone agrees it is an occasion for hope, love, and reunion with family and friends.
The holiday, celebrated by an estimated two billion people across the globe, principally in Asian countries, among them China, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, follows a 12-year cycle. Many cultures adhere to the Chinese Zodiac, in which each year is represented by an animal. But each culture observes the event in different ways. This year’s celebration begins on January 22, when the world welcomes the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit—or for those using the Vietnamese Zodiac, the Year of the Cat. We asked members of the BU community to share their favorite Lunar New Year memories and their special traditions and rituals as they see out the old year and welcome in the next.
Terriers, we wish you a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year.
