Six Ways to Best Take Advantage of a Wellness Day
Step away from the daily grind and enjoy your time off
Congratulations! You made it to your first wellness day. While it can’t compare to spring break, it’s still a much-needed break from your daily grind. To help you get the absolute most out of your time off, we made a list of some ways to best use the day.
1. Clear out your weekend work

If you’d rather use your wellness day to tackle your unfinished work, try to pitch in on some or most of it so you can free up your weekend. If you get enough done during your day off, you could end up with a weekend of freedom all to yourself. This way, you can still enjoy some time off even if you need to meet Friday deadlines.
2. Do what makes you happy

Everybody is different—we each have distinct passions and hobbies that we enjoy. So this wellness day, try to think about what you genuinely enjoy doing. Whether it’s shredding some Metallica in your room or crocheting new mittens for your dog, do what you love. It’s important for good mental health.
3. Reflect

A lot of us are hurting right now. The pandemic is a grinding marathon that everyone is tired of running. This is why your mental health is more important than ever. During your wellness day this week, try to reflect on your mental health. If you feel that you need help, don’t wait to seek it out.
4. Take a COVID-safe excursion

Odds are you haven’t gone out much in the past year. Obviously not by choice. But that means you’re also dying to get back out in the world. Unfortunately, we don’t all have access to the vaccine yet. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t get out and go to local areas. Take a walk around the city on Thursday. A trip to the Boston Common might be enough to take your mind off everything for a little while.
5. Have a staycation

Just because there’s a pandemic doesn’t mean you don’t deserve some time to recharge. To take some of the stress out of your life for a day, plan a staycation. This could be anything from having your own spa day to vegging on the couch all day. Just pick something that sounds appealing to you and treat yourself—you deserve it.
6. Check out Headspace for mindfulness and meditation

Did you know the BU Wellbeing Project has partnered with Athletics, Graduate Education, and Student Health Services to offer all BU students free access to Headspace—a research-backed app for mindfulness and meditation. Pop your headphones in, turn on a meditation exercise, and feel your stress fall away.
Psst…Be sure to check out our Instagram Live Afternoon Yoga session with FitRec instructor Dave Rogers today, March 18, at 12:30 pm EDT.
Hopefully, these tips can help you get the most out of your wellness day. Remember—you deserve to take breaks!
